What/Where: Gravy, 6 Main St, Somersworth, NH 03878

                  603-841-5316 / admin@gravynh.com

American regional home cooking in a fun, fast-casual setting in the iconic old 1876 Rail Station in downtown serving lunch, dinner, takeout, and delivery six days a week. Gravy, in one form or another, is a part of the fabric of our lives and tables. No matter where you grew up, no matter the ethnicity, there was gravy. And it always made things better. Gravy restaurant provides a dynamic menu format that lets you create your own dish from a selection of gravies. First, pick your gravy. Second pick what you’d like to put it on (e.g. buttermilk biscuit, fried chicken, meatloaf). Lastly, choose from a selection of toppings to make it your own. Recreate a childhood favorite or take it to a level you never could at home. Combine it with a local draft beer, cider, wine, soft drink, old fashioned milk shake, or ice cream float. Guests will order from the counter, seat themselves, and have their order brought to them at their table. How??? When you order we will ask for your nickname or alias. When your order is ready we’ll call it out and bring it over. From there the rest is Gravy. Another beer? Sure, we’ll bring it over. Dessert, you bet. Ice box cake, bread pudding, cobblers, pies, and other traditional home spun favorites will be there. Meat lovers and vegetarians alike will have plenty to choose from and while the gravy is THE thing, there will be other options as well such as an iceberg salad, our signature Gravyburger, and children’s menu. Just like Grandma’s house, if Grandma was a little funky and weird.

Snowshoe Rangers at the Wentworth House

Step back in time at Rollinsford’s historic Colonel Paul Wentworth House on Saturday and Sunday, January 18 and 19, and meet Captain John Harmon’s Snowshoe Company of Rangers, a group of historical reenactors who portray the soldiers who patrolled the New England frontier during the 1740s and 1750s.

Snowshoe companies were formed to patrol the colonial frontier during the long winters and protect the northern settlements from attack by the French and their Native American allies.  Members of Harmon’s Company will be in residence at the Wentworth House and will demonstrate the use of flintlock muskets and traditional snowshoes, plus the clothing, equipment and tactics used by the frontier militia.

Visitors may also tour the Wentworth House; warm up by the hearth and watch food being prepared in 18th century fashion; and experience other aspects of winter life in colonial New England.

Event hours are Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm, and Sunday from 9 am to 3 pm.  Admission is $5 for adults; the event is free for children and ARCH members.

The circa 1701 Wentworth House is located on Water Street in Rollinsford and is maintained by the Association for Rollinsford Culture and History (ARCH).  For more information about this and other events at the Wentworth House, consult the ARCH website at paulwentworthhouse.org or Facebook at The Colonel Paul Wentworth House.

ROCHESTER, NH – This December HRCU donated to 27 local non-profit organizations as a part of their sixth-annual Christmas Caring Campaign. For the first time, HRCU opened the process up to their membership, allowing members to nominate organizations that they felt deserved to be recognized and supported.

This resulted in 10 organizations who were not part of the Christmas Caring Campaign in 2018 receiving donations this season. This group of new recipients included Cross Roads House, Friends in Action, Catholic Charities New Hampshire, First Church Congregational, The Ryan Home Project, End 68 Hours of Hunger – Dover, End 68 Hours of Hunger – Farmington, We Care Food Pantry, Strafford County Meals on Wheels and the Dover SHARE Fund.

“It was great to get such a strong response from our members during the nomination process,” said HRCU President & CEO Brian Hughes. “This helped us learn about and support new organizations that we may not have known had such a need without hearing from our members.”

Of the 27 non-profits who received donations this year, most focused on important causes in the community such as homelessness, meal services, youth support and addiction recovery.

For a full list of organizations who received donations, please visit www.HRCU.org/ChristmasCaring.

    News Release

    Eversource Announces Leadership Change

    in New Hampshire

Bill Quinlan promoted to President of Transmission across the company,

VP of Electric Operations in NH Joe Purington to take over as President of NH Operations

MANCHESTER, N.H. (December 18, 2019) — Eversource today announced that current President of New Hampshire Operations Bill Quinlan will be promoted to President of Transmission and that Joe Purington will succeed Quinlan as the leader of New Hampshire operations. In his new role, Quinlan will oversee all operations and development of the energy company’s transmission system in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Connecticut, with a focus on facilitating the integration of new clean energy resources. Purington, currently Eversource New Hampshire’s Vice President of Electric Operations, will become President of New Hampshire Operations on January 1, 2020.

“I’m honored and humbled by the opportunity to lead Eversource’s New Hampshire operations, continuing our important work to ensure that the people and businesses of the Granite State have the power they need for their everyday lives,” Purington said. “At Eversource, we’re focused on innovative solutions that lower costs for our customers, enhance reliability, and advance clean energy, and I look forward to working with our dedicated employees and stakeholders across the state to achieve those goals.”

Since joining Eversource in 2014 as Vice President of New Hampshire Operations, Purington has been responsible for overseeing Eversource’s field and system operations, and for ensuring consistent approaches to engineering, construction, and maintenance of Eversource’s electric distribution and transmission system. Under his leadership, the energy company developed a state-of-the-art control center, launched its troubleshooter program to strengthen rapid response during emergencies and outages, installed distribution automation and smart switch technology across the electric system to reduce the number and duration of outages, and created its successful Electrical Lineworker Certificate Program in partnership with Manchester Community College and IBEW.

Purington previously served as Director of Electric Distribution at Central Maine Power (CMP), a business unit of Iberdola USA, as well as Director of System Operations for CMP, New York State Electric & Gas, and Rochester Gas & Electric. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Southern New Hampshire University and an associate degree in applied science from Southern Maine Vocational Technical Institute. Purington also serves on the board of Granite United Way.

“I’m proud of all that we have accomplished since 2013 to better meet the needs of our customers in the Granite State, and I look forward to this new opportunity to help ensure that all of our customers benefit from a robust, reliable and resilient transmission system,” Quinlan said. “From completing the restructuring of the electric utility industry and the sale of our generation facilities, to the installation of innovative technologies that enhance the reliability of our electric system and help support a clean energy future, we’ve made great progress over the last several years in New Hampshire.”

“Joe Purington’s expertise and commitment to serving the people of New Hampshire has been integral to our efforts over the last five years, and I’m confident that the state will continue to benefit from his leadership for years to come,” Quinlan added.

Quinlan first joined Eversource—previously Northeast Utilities—in 1984, and gained extensive experience spanning across his career in the company’s operations, policy, legal, regulatory, technology, and business development. Since becoming President of New Hampshire Operations in 2013, Quinlan led Eversource’s efforts with the State of New Hampshire and other key stakeholders to reach a settlement agreement on the deregulation of the state’s electric utility industry and establish an enhanced reliability program, then successfully oversaw the sale of the company’s generation facilities; championed energy efficiency, battery storage, electric vehicles, and other clean energy innovations; and continued to demonstrate Eversource New Hampshire’s leadership in employee volunteerism, economic development, and community engagement, including leading Eversource’s partnership with Easterseals New Hampshire on their highly successful Walk+5K Run.

    Joe Purington.
